The Department of Transport Marine Operations will be delivering Boat License Testing at the Show again this year.
If you’re looking to get your boat license, the Department of Transport advises you download the SA Recreational Boating Safety Handbook and do some study prior to sitting the test. The information sessions will provide helpful tips and refresh knowledge but are not intended as a crash course.
Visit the website www.ondeck.sa.gov.au to download the handbook, and take the “practise exam”.
When you get to the Club Marine SA Boat and Fishing Show, you need to register your attendance and pay the relevant fees at the South Australian Sea Rescue Squadron stand. Fees for examination are $40 for people over 16 years (Motor boat operators licence) or $19 for people aged 12 to 15 years (Special permit to operate a motor boat). Persons between 12 and 15 years must submit to a further practical test in their boat prior to issue of the permit. This can be arrange with a Marine Safety Officer at any time after the written exam, but must be within 6 months.
Boat License Information Sessions and Testing will be held on Saturday 21st October and Sunday 22nd October at 11am and 2pm at site J31. Each information session lasts one hour followed by examinations in the boat licence exam room, opposite site J31
Upon successful completion of the exam, a certificate will be issued which must be presented to service SA along with a licence fee of $38 to have the licence issued.
Be sure to get in early as there are limited places available in each session.
