Whether it’s a paddle or a peddle – get on the water with a Hobie!

Posted on October 4, 2017 | Author Adelaide 4WD | Category

What makes a Hobie kayak so unique is the fact they are hands-free!

Hobie kayaks have the MirageDrive system that offers the ability to propel through the water using your legs to peddle rather than paddle; meaning your hands to be free for fishing or taking photos.

Because you are using the strength in your legs, rather than your arms and shoulders, to propel the kayak, it is more like riding a bicycle than paddling. When this advantage is combined with the comfortable Hobie Vantage seating it really extends the pleasures of kayaking.

And in 2017, Hobie introduced the revolutionary Hobie MirageDrive 180 forward-reverse propulsion, which is set to change the way you go kayaking even more!

The MirageDrive 180 produces full power in both directions and offers unprecedented manoeuverability. The user can pull one of two shift cables to direct propulsion 180 degrees almost instantly from forward to reverse and back again. There are two easily identifiable shifters for – one for forward and one for reverse, making it simple for anyone to use.

The MirageDrive 180 is a standard drive with all 2017 model year Mirage kayaks, including the legendary Outback and award-winning Pro Anglers. The MirageDrive 180 is retrofitable to existing MirageDrive kayaks and is expected to be available as a stand-alone accessory by mid-year 2017.

The Hobie range caters for adventure touring, family kayaking, and serious fishing. There is also a vast, and ever-expanding, range of accessories for Hobie kayaks available from Hobie at the Show.

Introducing the Hobie Mirage Eclipse

Riding the Mirage Eclipse is as easy as walking. Just step on and go.

Stand tall on the water aboard the Eclipse, another world’s-first watercraft from Hobie. Incredibly stable, just step on and go using MirageDrive leg power. Soon you’ll fly high at exceptional speed, nimbly carving turns using fingertip steering controls.

There’s minimal set-up. Go from the car, the dock or your boat to the water in minutes. Cruise solo, with your partner or with a group. The Eclipse takes fitness out of the gym and onto the water and under the sun. The board is lightweight and durable and full of thoughtful features such as gear tie-downs and a carefree kick-up rudder. The Eclipse takes stand-up to a whole new level.
